DIEGO Maradona’s brilliance left its mark on the 1986 World Cup as he almost single-handedly carried Argentina to their second world title. 

Mexico stepped in to host the tournament at the last minute after beleaguered Colombia backed out for economic reasons. But many games were controversially played in the full heat of mid-day so European viewers could watch “evening matches.”
