Siti Zalina keeps singles title hope alives

SITI Zalina Ahmad kept alive her hopes to retain the women's lawn bowls singles title when she made it to the semi-finals of the competition at the State Lawn Bowls Centre yesterday. 

Siti Zalina clawed back from a set down to beat Guernsey's Alison Jayne Merrien 2-1 in the quarter-finals.  

She went down 6-10 in the first set but displayed stronger performances in the second to win 12-6. She won the tie breaker 2-0. 

Siti Zalina will play against Margaret Johnston of Northen Ireland today for a place in the final. 

Malaysia's challenge in the men's singles ended after Affendy Tan Abdullah was ousted in the quarter-finals. He was beaten 0-2 (1-14, 5-7) by Namibia's Douw Calitz in his final group match. Affendy was placed third in his group. 

The national lawn bowls team have a gold medal to show from the efforts of Nor Hashimah Ismail, Nor Iryani Azmi and Azlina Arshad in the women's triples event.
