PETALING JAYA: Anderson scored their first win in three matches when they defeatedformer champions Old La Sallians Association of Klang (Olak) 3-0 in the Malaysian Junior Hockey League (MJHL) match at the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium in Klang yesterday.
The Ipoh school had earlier gone down 1-3 to Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MPPJ) and 1-2 to former champions Tenaga Nasional on Friday.
As for former double champions Olak, it was their second defeat in four matches.
Despite playing away in Klang, Anderson took the early lead through Heiry Pami off a penalty corner goal in the 11th minute.
Anderson, the former Champions’ Schools winners, kept up the pressure to add another two goals through Ahmad Fudhail and Hafizul Aflawi in the 47th and 70th minutes respectively.
Anderson coach Mokhtar Baharuddin was relieved to see his team score their first win in the MJHL.
“Team morale was low after two defeats. But today (yesterday) my boys played much better as they managed to control the match right from the start and chalked up an impressive win over Olak,” said Mokhtar.
“I hope the win will spur my boys to play much better in our remaining matches. Our mission is to finish in the top-six of Division One and qualify for the quarter-finals.”
Meanwhile, Penang Indian Sports Club (PISC)-Nur Insafi chalked up their third win in Division Two after beating Matri 3-1 at the Bertam Hockey Stadium yesterday.
The PISC team are now third in Division Two with three wins and one defeat while Matri, of Perlis, have yet to collect a single point after three matches.
R. Prakash was the hero for the Penang team, scoring a brace in the 19th and 57th minutes. Mohan Raj Udayya scored the other goal in the 60th minute.
Abdul Muqsith scored the consolation goal for Matri in the 25th minute.
Meanwhile, Tunku Besar School ended MSS Perlis’ unbeaten run in Division Two with an impressive 3-0 win in Tampin.
Shahrul Ekhmar (29th and 57th minutes) scored two goals while Mohd Shafiq Yaacob made it 3-0 in the 64th minute for the Tampin school.
Clifford School of Kuala Kangsar registered their first win when they edged Armed Forces Juniors 2-1 at Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh yesterday.
