MICHAEL King is one of the security officers at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. But he is one Aussie who speaks Bahasa Malaysia quite fluently.
The 34-year-old King, who is married to Kedahan Izana Dzulkifli for 13 years, caught three Malaysian journalists who went to the gymnastics venue, the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne Park, by surprise with a warm greeting.
“Hello, I can speak simple Malay,” said King in the language. “I like Malaysians and I am married to one.”
On security in Melbourne, King said that measures had been taken to ensure the smooth running of the 18th Games.
“We have a big group of security personnel. Security is tight at all the venues, especially now that the Games have started. This will keep everything in order,” said King, who also helped out at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
