Hidayat hopes to defy odds in Melbourne

WEIGHTLIFTERS from India, Pakistan, Nauru and Australia are the obvious frontrunners but Indonesian-born Mohamed Hidayat Hamidon has promised to keep Malaysia’s flag flying at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Hidayat is drawing inspiration from his gold medal in the clean and jerk and silver in the total in the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games. He also won a bronze (total) in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
