IPOH: Perak stormed to the top of the Super League standings after a hard-earned 2-0 win over Pahang at the Perak Stadium here last night.
Two goals within a six-minute spell in the second half gave Perak the three points they needed to leapfrog previous leaders Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MPPJ) into first place in the league.
MPPJ slipped to second position on goal difference after their narrow loss to Perlis in Kangar last night, thanks to a Kalande Kabamba goal in the 88th minute.
Perak gave their new FA president Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi a perfect welcoming present with a rousing second half performance against a wilting Pahang side.
Midfielder Danial Fadzly opened the scoring for the home team in the 68th minute and national striker R. Surendren made it 2-0 in the 74th minute.
Pahang, who slipped to second last in the eight-team league following the loss, did not have much to offer in attack except for a freekick by Indra Putra Mahyuddin which came off the crossbar just before halftime.
