MIRI: Myanmar’s only female professional golfer Khin Thu Thu is looking for her breakthrough at the Malaysian Ladies Open after finally getting a passport to travel.

The 24-year-old Thu Thu goes into today’s tournament at the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club here full of confidence after turning pro earlier this year.

“I may not be totally perfect but some parts of my game are excellent,” she said.

The stocky Thu Thu added that as her country’s sole professional woman golfer, she wants to play well and put Myanmar on the golfing map.

“We have had good men’s players like Kyi Hla Han playing on the Asian Tour and I want to go strong in the Ladies Asian Golf Tour,” she said.

“To be seen and heard, I need good results and this is what I want to achieve. I don’t want to predict how I’m going to finish here. I’ll let my clubs do the talking.”

Thu Thu did not play in the first two events on the Tour – in Hong Kong and Thailand – because she had difficulties getting a passport.

“Now that I have one, I can play anywhere in the world,” she said. – AFP
