Australians in row over ‘snub’ to Queen E

SYDNEY: A row broke out in Australia yesterday over a decision to drop the British national anthem, “God Save the Queen”, from the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games – despite the fact that Queen Elizabeth II will be present.

The monarch, who is head of the Commonwealth and remains Head of State of this former British colony, will officially open the Games in Melbourne on March 15 but the organisers said that “Advance Australia Fair” would be the only anthem played.
