IPOH: Deputy Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be elected as the new president of the Perak FA at the association's annual general meeting here tomorrow.
It is learnt that Zahid has been given the blessings by outgoing president Raja Nazrin Shah and also Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Tajol Rosli Ghazali to take up the job.
Raja Nazrin is relinquishing the post, which he held since 2001, to concentrate on his tasks as president of the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF).
The state chairman for youth and sports, Datuk Mohamed Zaim Abu Hassan, who is also the president of the Parit FA, is tipped to become the new deputy president.
The incumbent, Datuk Jamal Nasir Rasdi, is under a one-year suspension by the FA of Malaysia (FAM) and he cannot seek re-election. The Perak team manager has also quit his post as FAM vice-president.
It is also learnt that the longest-serving Perak FA official, Datuk Ismail Mokhtar, will also be stepping down. Ismail has been a committee member since 1992 and the vice-president for the last seven years.
