KUALA LUMPUR: Swede Anna Tybring, a regular on the Ladies European Tour, is among the top golfers who will be competing in the inaugural US$100,000 (RM380,000) Malaysian Ladies Open golf tournament.

The Malaysian Open, which is part of the newly launched Ladies Asian Golf Tour (LAGT), will be held at the new Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club in Miri from March 2-4.

Malaysian Ladies Golf Association (Malga) president Tunku Puteri Tunku Datuk Seri Jawahir Tuanku Jaafar said the Malaysian Open was formerly known as the Kosaido Ladies Asia Golf Circuit, which ended in 2003.

“The LAGT has five events, starting with the Hong Kong Ladies Masters on Feb 8-10, Thailand Ladies Open (Feb 22-24), the Malaysian Ladies Open, Zhuhai Orient Masters (March 15-17) and Macau Championship (March 22-24). The total purse for the 2006 LAGT will be US$410,000,” she said.

She added that more than 90 professional golfers from 14 countries would feature in the Malaysian Open.
