Ex-champ jailed


KNOXVILLE (Tennessee): Former AustralianOpen champion Roscoe Tannerreceived a two-year prison sentence forviolating terms of his probation for a2003 grand theft conviction, televisionstation WBIR reported on Tuesday. 

Tanner, a 55-year-old Tennesseenative, was arrested in his home statelast October on charges of violating hisparole by failing to make restitutionpayments, US$80,000 in child supportfor a daughter he fathered. 

A Florida judge had sentencedTanner, who won the 1977 AustralianOpen, to 10 years on probation in 2003for bouncing a 2000 cheque used topurchase a boat. – AFP
