KUALA LUMPUR: Defending champions Kedah will be hard-pressed to retain the Coca-Cola Cup, the nation's annual inter-state youth football competition, when the tournament kicks off in Malacca today.
The six-day tournament ends on Dec 11 and all the teams will be going all out to win the last tournament of the year.
This year’s Coca-Cola Cup, is open to players aged 16 and 11 teams have confirmed participation.
They are defending champions Kedah, last year’s runners-up Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak and hosts Malacca.
The teams will be divided into three groups for the preliminary rounds before the top two teams advance to the second stage.
In the second stage, the six teams will be divided into two groups with the top two group winners squaring off in the final.
Group A: Kedah, Sarawak, Selangor. Group B: Kuala Lumpur, Perlis, Terengganu, Kelantan. Group C: Perak, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Malacca.
(All matches start at 4.30pm) Selangor vs Kedah (Yayasan Saad Padang), Kelantan vs Kuala Lumpur (SMK Padang Temu), Malacca vs Perak (Mozac Field), Terengganu vs Perlis (Henry Gurney Ground), Negri Sembilan vs Penang (SMK Klebang).
