MANILA: A 17,000-strong police force went on alert here yesterday to ensure the safety of the thousands of athletes and officials attending next week’s SEA Games.
Metropolitan police chief Vidal Querol did not mention any specific threats, but noted yesterday that recent attacks by the communist New People’s Army rebels had left at least a dozen soldiers dead in central and northern Philippines.
