Wie begins pro-golf career by chasing Sorenstam

PALM DESERT, California: American teenager Michelle Wie embarked on her professional career Thursday, shooting a 2-under 70 while Annika Sorenstam took the first-round lead at the Samsung Championship with a 64 that could have been lower if not for missing putts inside five feet on the final two holes.

Wie, who turned 16 on Tuesday, wound up in a tie for 12th among the 20-player field, dropping shots on two of the last five holes with a tee shot that caromed off the trees on the 14th, and hitting twice into bunkers on the closing hole.
