Pakistan women hope hardliners won’t oppose first football meet

KARACHI: Women footballers in Pakistan hope to avoid protests from religious hardliners at their first ever national championship next month by wearing Muslim dress and barring men from the audience.

The tournament, being staged in Islamabad from Sept 22, is a potential target for Islamic conservatives. In April a number of people were injured when hardliners clashed with police over a women’s running race.
