LONDON: Nigerian teenager John Obi Mikel, the object earlier this year of a tug of war between Chelsea and Manchester United, has been ordered to return to his club Lyn Oslo, FIFA said on Friday.
FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber ruled that Mikel, “who is contracted to the club but left without returning, has to immediately resume duties with Lyn Oslo FC” following a claim by the Norwegian club.
The decision may be appealed before the Court for Arbitration for Sport, FIFA said.
Mikel went missing in May and is believed to be in England.
United had been tracking him since he was 15 and in April this year, once he turned 18, manager Alex Ferguson announced that he had agreed a deal with Lyn.
In May, Mikel told Norwegian TV that he had been receiving threatening phone calls and disappeared without notice from the club.
He arrived in London and told British TV that he now wanted to join Chelsea, whose own bid in April had been rejected by Lyn. – Reuters
