GERARDMER (France): The Tour de France mountains only get steeper and tougher. Lance Armstrong can no longer be certain his teammates will be there to help him through the punishing Alps and Pyrenees.
Armstrong's Discovery Channel teammates failed to stay with him on Saturday's eighth stage: a 231.5km trek from Pforzheim in Germany which featured four climbs and ended in the eastern French town of Gerardmer.
