FIFA: Players must provide cardiologic clearance for World Cup

FRANKFURT: All 32 teams competing at next year's World Cup must provide a cardiologic clearance certificate for their players, the ruling body FIFA said yesterday at the Confederations Cup.

The announcement was made by FIFA doctor Toni Graf-Baumann on the day two years after Cameroon player Marc-Vivien Foe collapsed on the pitch during a Confederations Cup semi-final between his team and Colombia and later died of heart failure.
