KUANTAN: Sometimes, the pain in her knee can be unbearable but top national doubles woman shuttler Chin Eei Hui plans to grit her teeth and carry on playing – at least until the World Championships, which will be played in Anaheim, California, from Aug 15-21.

The 23-year-old Eei Hui and partner Wong Pei Tty have qualified for the world meet for the very first time and she has no intention of missing the event.

They are currently ranked seventh in the world – the highest ever by a Malaysian women’s pair.

In order to stay among the top eight in the world to ensure a good seeding for the World Championships, Eei Hui-Pei Tty, who train under national women’s doubles coach Cheah Soon Kit, will have to reach at least the quarter-finals in the Singapore Open (Nov 27-July 3) and Malaysian Open (July 5-10).

“Occasionally my (right) knee hurts. This is an old injury and it acted up during the Sudirman Cup (world mixed team in Beijing) last month. It is better now and sometimes, I use painkillers just to hold off the pain,” said Eei Hui.

The chubby Eei Hui, who plays with her knees strapped, said they were on the right track in their preparations for the world meet.

“I will not allow the pain to bother my preparations for the world meet. There are three tournaments (Pahang Open, Singapore Open and Malaysian Open) before the world meet. And we plan to do well.

“Certainly, we want to put up a strong performance in the world meet and live up to our top eight ranking.”

First, Eei Hui-Pei Tty hope to continue their unbeaten streak in the domestic circuit. They have not lost a match since 2002 and they are the top seeds in the ongoing Pahang Open at the Sukpa Indoor Stadium here.

Their only challenge comes from second seeds and World Championship-bound pair Ooi Sock Ai-Mooi Hing Yau.
