KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry will be launching a “talent identification programme” on television soon to seek out talented athletes for the eight core sports.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Azalina Othman Said said that by introducing the programme, they hoped to unearth more talent in the core sports – athletics, badminton, bowling, football, hockey, gymnastics, squash, diving and swimming.

“The Malaysian Idol programme, which was launched not long ago, received overwhelming response and I hope to see the same sort of response for the ‘talent identification programme’.

“This programme is open to everyone and I also hope to see parents getting involved to help their children go far in sports,” said Azalina after launching a new sports programme on Astro Vaanavil’s “Vilayattu Arangam” yesterday.

The show will focus on Malaysian Indian athletes and will debut on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

The show will be aired on the first and third weeks of every month.
