KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's bid to get a top-four finish in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup went up in smoke when they were beaten 1-3 by New Zealand at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil here yesterday. 

Philip Burrows put the visitors ahead just two minutes into the game but S. Kuhan's penalty corner flick in the 42nd minute – which came after numerous missed chances for Malaysia – raised hopes.
