SUWON: English champions Chelsea beat South Korean champions Suwon Bluewings 1-0 in a friendly football match here yesterday thanks to a first half goal from Joe Cole.

He latched on to a through ball after 15 minutes and side-footed past Suwon's South Korean international goalkeeper Lee Woon-Jae.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea were in Suwon to mark the signing of a shirt sponsorship deal with Bluewings owners Samsung Electronics, reportedly worth US$96mil over the next five years.

The English champions were struggling with jet-lag, injuries and fatigue after a long domestic season but lived up to head coach Mourinho's promise that they would put on a show for the new sponsors.

The first half belonged to Chelsea with Cole and Damian Duff teaming up in attack.
