LONDON: Word of mouth in Manchester yesterday afternoon following Malcolm Glazer’s successful acquisition of more than 70% of United shares meant an inevitable gathering outside Old Trafford for many, many season ticket-holders.
The meeting was set for 5pm. Mounted police were there to greet them, along with the message that it was “an alcohol-free zone”. Slowly, silently, fans eventually numbering 1,500, gathered outside their club, a phalanx of club security guards, and a dozen good-natured policemen, maintaining a vigil from a distance.
