FAM to name new secretary-general on Labour Day

PETALING JAYA: There will be no rest on Labour Day for the FA of Malaysia (FAM). Today, the new general-secretary will be will be named at the Congress in Kuala Lumpur.

This being a non-election year, the focus will be on FAM president Sultan Ahmad Shah's announcement on the man picked to Datuk Dell Akbar Khan, who resigned in February.

The FAM had engaged consultants Pricewaterhouse Coopers to restructure the association’s administrative set-up and also to assist them in selecting the new general secretary.

The job pays well, with over RM200,000 per annum and a car thrown in for the successful candidate.

The five shortlisted from the 168 candidates who applied for the job were: Noor Kefli Sulong (director of Futsal in the Asian Football Confederation); Rosli Hussein (lecturer and former international); John Lawrence William (school teacher with PhD in sports science); Razi Abdullah (banker); and Jacob Lim Hong Teong (businessman).

However, FAM could not decide and it is learnt had a private meeting with former FAM technical officer Windsor Paul, who is currently working with former FAM general-secretary Datuk Paul Mony Samuel with the Asean Football Federation (AFF) and the FIFA Goal Project.

And there is some disturbing news. FAM may even be thinking of Ahmad Fuad Duad – the man who was directly responsible for the mess-up in the FAM competition fixtures last season, the mess that resulted in the double resignation of Dell and his assistant Datuk Yap Nyim Keong and put FAM in a crisis in the first place.
