IPOH: Perak's Si Yew Meng captured a “double” in the second leg of the Hicomobile-LTAM tennis circuit at the Royal Perak Golf Club courts here yesterday.
Top seed Yew Ming, a Davis Cupper, won the singles when he outclassed national teammate and doubles partner Mohd Noor Noordin of Penang 6-2,6-0 in the final.
Yew Meng, who was also top seeded in the first leg held in Kuala Lumpur last month, was a losing finalist to veteran V. Selvam who won 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Selvam was a notable absentee here.
In the doubles final, the duo, who were also winners in the first leg, easily defeated the combination of Marco J. Sitepu and Vincent Tan of Selangor 6-0,6-1.
The women’s competition also saw Penang’s fourth seed Jawariah Noordin returning home with the singles and doubles crowns.
She created a major upset in the singles final, beating top seed Qistina Hassan of Negri Sembilan 6-0,6-0.
Jawariah then partnered Law Shu-Yen of Perak to win the doubles title which was conducted on a single round robin. Qistina and Dalilah Hassan were the runners-up.
