PETALING JAYA: The four-week break in the Premier League competition is no good news to Selangor MK Land.
MK Land went into the break in second position in Group A with 17 points from eight matches. And coach Khan Hung Meng is hoping that his team will not lose their momentum during the break.
The club side trail Selangor by two points and they are one point in front of Kedah.
Teams in the Premier League and also the Super League are taking a break from competition because of the national team's participation in the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia from April 8-20.
MK Land would have gone into the break as the group leaders but for the 2-3 defeat by Kedah last Sunday. They had gone on top of the table two weeks ago with a 3-2 win over Selangor.
“We actually played better against Kedah compared to our match against Selangor,” said Hung Meng.
“The pace was faster and the players controlled the match well. But it was disappointing that we failed to score from the chances we created. Kedah made better use of their chances.
“A win against Kedah would have put us in a better position. But the defeat is no cause for alarm. We are just two points behind Selangor.”
During the break in competition, Hung Meng is planning for the team to play three friendly matches.
“So far, we have one against the national Under-23 team on April 16. We hope to play two matches more against FAM Cup sides MPSJ (Subang Jaya Municipal Council) and Selangor Proton,” said Hung Meng.
“Actually the break will not benefit us. All of our players have a clean bill of health and they may lose their good momentum. Hopefully, the friendly matches will keep them in the groove.”
MK Land's good run thus far has very much to do with their foreign strikers, who are on song.
St Kitts and Nevis international Marlon Alex James is the team's leading scorer with seven goals – four fewer than the league's leading marksman, Selangor's Brian Fuentes.
Slovakian Miloslav Toth scored four goals while local striker Mohd Nor Derus has three to his name.
MK Land will resume action in the league on April 24 against Brunei. They will play against Penang NTFA three days later.
Both the matches are at home at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium.
