KUALA LUMPUR: The preliminary rounds of the Malaysia Junior Hockey League (MJHL) will be a one-round robin competition in both divisions following the decision by the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) to send the national Under-18 teams to the Arafura Games, which will be held in Darwin from May 14-22.
The MJHL, which begins on April 8, will now see the completion of the preliminary rounds on May 13. The knockout stage will begin on May 23 and the final will be held on June 19.
Earlier, Division One was to take a home-and-away format and Division Two was to be played in two groups.
However, the MHF secretary, T. Paramalingam, said that the knockout stage would remain a home-and-away competition.
Seven teams will play in Division One and the league fixtures will be completed in under a month. Division Two will have 11 teams.
Bukit Jalil Sports School and the Bukit Jalil Sports School Juniors will open the Division One contest on April 8 and the last match in the preliminary round will be played on May 6 with Bukit Jalil Sports School up against Tenaga National.
Meanwhile, the MHF have failed to secure sponsorship for attire but they have decided to provide them to the teams.
Paramalingam said that besides the RM5,000 grant, each team would also receive two sets of jerseys, shorts and socks.
