Rookies fail to mount strong challenge

IT was not a good day for the rookies yesterday at the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, with all four occupying the last four slots in the first round of qualifying.

Indian hopeful Narain Karthikeyan driving for Jordan was the best among the newcomers coming in 17th, clocking 1:37.806 just ahead of his teammate Tiago Monteiro (1:37.856).
