PETALING JAYA: Gold medallists at the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Cyprus received a digital camera each yesterday, thanks to their sponsors, Canon.

Shalin Zulkifli, Wendy Chai, Alex Liew and Zulmazran Zulkifli, who struck gold at the meet two weeks ago, each received a Ixus 430 camera. Chief coach Chris Batson was also presented with the same camera.

They received their rewards when Canon Marketing (Malaysia) extended their incentive sponsorship agreement with the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) at a signing ceremony yesterday.

The RM250,000 sponsorship package includes incentive award for the national team’s monthly ranking roll-off and other major tournaments this year.

Canon’s president and Chief Operating Officer (CEO), Liew Sip Chon, said: “We are happy to extend our sponsorship. Malaysian bowlers have achieved considerable success at international level last year and it is sad to note that they are not adequately rewarded. We are glad to contribute to this cause.”

The MTBC secretary, Sidney Tung, was pleased with Canon’s support.

“Canon’s incentives have proved to be an important motivational tool for our bowlers to achieve greater success,” said Sidney.

The national team will leave for Kuwait on March 12 for the 2nd Kuwait International Open and the second leg of the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Tour. Next up will be the Malaysian Open on March 25.
