KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s singles shuttler Lee Tsuen Seng received a big boost in his bid to revive his badminton career under Chinese coach Li Mao when he was named for the prestigious All-England yesterday.

The US$125,000 All-England is from March 8-13.

Tsuen Seng is one of the six men’s singles players named for the tournament. The others are Wong Choong Hann, Lee Chong Wei, Kuan Beng Hong and the Hashim brothers - Hafiz and Roslin.

Tsuen Seng, Choong Hann and Chong Wei are all training under Li Mao along with Yeoh Kay Bin and K. Yogendran who failed to make the cut for their first tournament this year. The other three players - Beng Hong, Roslin and Hafiz – are training under national singles coach Misbun Sidek.

The 25-year-old Tsuen Seng had been on the brink of being axed from the national team following his string of poor showing over the last two years under Misbun’s guidance. However, he has been thrown a lifeline under Li Mao.

ALL FIRED UP: Lee Tsuen Seng now hopes to get back to top under Li Mao's guidance.

The lanky shuttler is all fired up for a change of fortunes under the Chinese.

“I am glad I am still in the national team. Now, I have an opportunity to compete in international tournaments. I will have to prove myself in this one year,” said Tsuen Seng.

“My performances have dropped over the last two years. But I hope to get back to the top under Li Mao’s guidance. His approach is like Indra (Gunawan, the Indonesian who coached Malaysia in 2000-2002). I can communicate with him.”

The aggressive shuttler enjoyed the best year of his career under Indra’s tutelage in 2002. He upset Taufik Hidayat in the final of the Thomas Cup against Indonesia. Malaysia, however, went down 2-3 to the Indonesians.

In 2001, he emerged as Dutch Open champion.

At last year’s All-England, Tsuen Seng lost to South Korean Lee Hyun-il in the second round.

Tsuen Seng has also been given a good chance to warm up ahead of the All-England. All those taking part in the All-England will also feature in the German Open from Feb 28-March 5.

Yesterday, national chief coach Yap Kim Hock also announced the squad for the Swiss Open from March 15-20.

Meanwhile, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have also decided to send junior players from the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) and the players from the Project 2010-12 Squad for the upcoming junior Open tournaments in Holland (Feb 16-20) and Germany (Feb 24-27)
