Grieving Benin lose in penalty shoot-out, Nigeria triumph


COTONOU: Benin lost to Egypt in a penalty shoot-out at the semi-final stage of the African Youth Championship on Wednesday, 10 days after their goalkeeper was murdered following a defeat in their opening match. 

Benin’s Under-20 team took the lead with a goal from Maiga Gariga Abou in the second minute but Egypt’s Farag Ahmed equalised in the 83rd and his team went on to win the penalty shoot-out 4-1 in front of 25,000 fans in Cotonou.
