BOGOTA: Copa Libertadores winning coach Luis Fernando Montoya's health has deteriorated sharply nearly a week after he was shot while protecting his wife from robbers, doctors said on Monday.
Montoya, who led Once Caldas to the South American club championship earlier this year, was struck by two bullets as assailants tried to grab his wife's purse outside their home in the northwestern city of Caldas. One of the bullets hit him in the neck, damaging his spinal column and leaving him permanently paralysed from the neck down.
