IPOH: Shuttlers from the Bukit Jalil Sports School bagged two singles titles in the Singapore International Youth Championships, which ended yesterday.

Abdul Latif Mohd Ariff defeated Chan Kwong Beng 15-13, 15-3 in an all-Malaysian final to clinch the Under-17 boy's singles title. Abdul Latif had upstaged second seed Lok Chong Chieh, also from Malaysia, 15-12, 17-16 to reach the final.

Kwong Beng booked his place in the final after beating top seed and teammate Mawan Vountus Indra 15-5, 15-6.

Teo Kok Siang, meanwhile, had to work hard for the U-15 boy's singles crown.

He fought his way from a game down to beat Indonesian second seed Ricky Widianto 13-15, 15-7, 15-5.

Kok Siang had prevailed over fellow Malaysian Chan Chee Yuan 15-17, 17-15, 15-11 in the semi-finals.

Ricky secured his place by beating Thailand's Suensonboonsak Tanongsak 15-12, 13-15, 15-9 in the other semi-final.

However, Malaysia suffered disappointments in the U-17 and U-15 boys' doubles competition.

Kok Siang-Mak Hee Chun lost to Thai second seeds Laerpanyaroj Pawin-Tanongsak 15-8, 8-15, 4-15 in the U-15 final.
