SINGAPORE: The Philippines will host 41 sports in three different cities during the Manila SEA Games from Nov 27-Dec 5 next year.
World bowling governing body’s FIQ president Stephen “Steve” C. Hontiveros, who is also the Philippines SEA Games organising committee secretary general, said the sports would be held in Manila, Cebu and Bacolod.
“We are hosting 41 sports and 388 events at the Manila Games. We have decided to hold six sports in Cebu and four in Bacolod.
“These cities are about one and a half hours away from Manila by air,” said Hontiveros.
“On Dec 8, we had a meeting with all the sports associations and we talked about the venues, events and schedules. We are building a new swimming pool and the other venues will be upgraded. Everything is going on smoothly,” he said.
Hontiveros also said that they had changed their Games mascot to the Philippines eagle, replacing the tarsier, a nocturnal midget monkey considered the world’s smallest primate and an endangered species.
Currently, three sports – wushu, shooting and wrestling – are appealing for an increase in the number of events for the Games.
