KANGAR: The Malaysia Cup final is the biggest ever sports show for the people of Perlis.

The Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, has rushed back from Australia for his team's big date at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil tomorrow.

The final against Kedah has also dominated talk in coffee shops and warungs.

At the Perlis legislative assembly sitting on Tuesday, political opinions were set aside as both PAS and Barisan Nasional representatives called a truce for once and congratulated the home team for their entry to the final.

The sole opposition member, State PAS commissioner Hashim Jasin, took some time in his debate on the state’s Budget to express his pride for the football team. Hashim received nods of approval from Barisan backbenchers.

The Umno secretary-general, Datuk Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, a former state footballer, said: “This team have made tiny Perlis proud.”

Storekeeper Othman Abdullah said the final would be a match to watch.

He said that Kedah and Perlis had similar history and the people spoke the same northern dialect. “It is just like a match between family members,” he said.
