MAAU to probe dismal acts

PETALING JAYA: Except for the two national records set by Kuala Lumpur's Ngew Sin Mei in the women's jump events, the 81st MAAU-NSC-Milo Malaysian Open Athletics Championships, which ended on Saturday at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, was a mediocre affair.

Most of the big names in athletics were missing from the biggest local event in Malaysia; the overseas-based national trainees performed below par; the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) talent shied away as the meet clashed with their trial examinations; and veterans, who had represented the country for over a decade, continued to win gold medals.
