TAIPEI: Taiwans President Chen Shui-bian yesterday conferred the nations highest medals on two taekwondo exponents who won the first Olympic gold medals for Taiwan.
He placed the Order of the Brilliant Star medals on Chen Shih-hsin and Chu Mu-yen in a ceremony at the presidential office. Shih-hsin, 25, won gold in the womens under-49kg flyweight division, while Mu-yen, 22, took the gold in the mens under-58kg category.
