WELLINGTON: New Zealand may not stamp their mark on the coming Athens Games but they have already marked its stamps with an Olympic theme.
New Zealand Post claimed a world first yesterday when it released a series of “action replay” stamps which feature great Kiwi Olympic moments. The stamps, produced using a “lenticular” printing process, appear to show movement when they are tilted.
The 45-cent stamp features John Walker winning the 1,500m at the 1976 Montreal Olympics while the 90-cent version shows long jumper Yvette Williams at Helsinki in 1952.
The NZ$1.50 stamp shows canoeists Paul McDonald and Ian Ferguson at Seoul in 1988 and the NZ$2 one features Peter Snell winning the first of three track gold medals at Rome in 1960. – AP
