BEIJING: A top Asian soccer official backtracked and offered an apology yesterday after launching a scathing attack on Beijing at the weekend.
Peter Velappan, general secretary of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), stirred Chinese anger by accusing fans in Beijing of rudeness for booing during Saturday's opening ceremony for the Asian Cup competition.
