ATHENS: Like never before in Olympic history, security is the biggest challenge of the Athens Olympics, the first summer Games to take place since the Sept 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
Around 70,000 security personnel will outnumber athletes to the unprecedented proportion of almost seven to one. Greece expects to spend around 1.2bil euros (US$1.5bil) on the Games' security five times more than at the previous summer Olympics in Sydney.
