MADRID: Real Madrid’s Brazil World Cup winner Roberto Carlos has reportedly signed a preliminary agreement with Chelsea to move to the English Premiership side in the summer.
The Cadena Ser radio station said the left-back, in dispute with Real over his wages, had pocketed two million euros from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
However, the player rejected the reports carried widely by the Spanish press.
“I’ve signed nothing with nobody,” he said.
But the AS sports daily said it was common knowledge Roberto Carlos was in conflict with Real sporting director Jorge Valdano and president Florentino Perez over his pay demands and that was how France international Claude Makelele secured his transfer to Chelsea last summer.
Real sources told El Pais the 31-year-old was not the same player since his divorce. – AFP
