AMELIA ISLAND (Florida): A hip strain halted Elena Dementieva's defence of her Amelia Island WTA title on Wednesday when it had barely begun.
The fifth-seeded Russian, who won her first career title here 12 months ago, retired from her second-round match against Jelena Kostanic with the Croatian leading 7-6 (7-5), 1-0.
