Beckham in talks to make cameo appearance in ‘The Pink Panther’

LOS ANGELES: Will the “The Pink Panther” bend it with Beckham?

David Beckham is in negotiations to make a cameo in the new remake, which features comic actor Steve Martin as bumbling French Inspector Clouseau – the role originated by Peter Sellers in the “Pink Panther” series of films directed by Blake Edwards.

Beckham would play a football player in the film, which follows a detective solving the murder of a famous football coach and the theft of the Pink Panther diamond.

Whether or not the England captain, who calls the shots in the Real Madrid team, can take the role hinges on whether the shooting schedule would present any conflicts with his regular job for Real Madrid, MGM spokesman Eric Cops said on Friday.

“We want him to do it and he wants to do it and as long as the filming dates and his working dates work themselves out, it will happen,” Cops said.

The cameo would be the first feature film appearance for Beckham, who was shown in archive footage in Gurinder Chadha’s film “Bend It Like Beckham”.

The “Pink Panther” movie, scheduled to start production in May, will also star Kevin Kline, Beyonce Knowles and Jean Reno.

It is scheduled for a July 2005 release.

Beckham’s fame has spread far beyond football, in part due to his changing hairstyle and marriage to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. – AP
