Daniel and Kim Ling yet to make cut for Masters Finals

PETALING JAYA: All the national bowlers, except for Daniel Lim and Voon Kim Ling, have made the cut for the Malaysian Open Masters Finals.

There was no change in the local pool qualifying of both the men’s and women’s competitions at the end of the afternoon session at the Pyramid Mega Lanes here yesterday.

Ben Heng continued to share the top spot with Eric Ang in the men’s competition. The other members of the national squad – Aaron Kong, Mohd Noer Said, Jonathan Lim, Adrian Ang, Alex Liew, Zulmazran Zulkifli and Mohd Nadri Mohd Noor – are among the top 13 and safely through to the Finals.

Daniel, the 2002 national champion, played in the mixed pool and fell to ninth spot with a score of 889. Qatar’s Abdulla Al-Qattan took over the lead from Biboy Rivera of the Philippines with a superb 998 yesterday.

The top three positions in the local and foreign pools of the women’s competition remained intact.

England’s Zara Glover, a triple gold medallist at the World Championships, moved up to ninth in the foreign pool with an 842 and is assured of a place in the Finals.

Shalin Zulkifli and Selangor’s Siti Khadija Osman continued to share the lead in the local pool on 890.

National bowlers Esther Cheah, Wendy Chai, Choy Poh Lai, Sarah Yap, Zandra Aziela, Tang Joh Six and Elaine Lam are among the top 11 in the local pool and safely through to the Finals. Kim Ling’s score of 756 may not be good enough for her to advance.

The top 33 women and top 39 men, including the respective defending champions, qualify for the Finals, which begin today.

The 32 women comprise the top 11 each in the local and foreign pools and the top 10 in the mixed pool.

The 38 men will come from the top 13 each in the local and foreign pools and the top 12 in the mixed pool.
