DOHA: The Qatar football federation said on Thursday they were surprised by FIFA’s clampdown on naturalisations by players who do not have an obvious connection with their new country.
Assistant general secretary Majed Al-Khalifi said this went against a FIFA ruling last October, which allowed federations to naturalise any player who has not played for his country of origin.
