ATHENS: Greece's general secretary for the Athens Olympics has resigned in the first departure of a top official since a new government took power, officials said on Thursday.
Officials said Costas Kartalis, who was a government official and third in command for the Games organisation as well as a member of the socialist party that lost power in Sunday's elections, resigned despite pleas from new Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis to remain in his post for the August 13-29 Games.
