PENANG: Romanian defender Cristian Teodor (pic) has gone home to collect his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and will not be back in time for Penang’s Super League match against Kedah at the State Stadium in Batu Kawan tomorrow.
Problems in getting his ITC had kept the 30-year-old central defender out of the opening match against Perlis in Kangar last Saturday.
Said coach Yunus Alif yesterday: “Not being able to field him again is a setback for us. But it is pointless keeping him here and waiting for his documents to arrive.
“He also has to settle a 10% levy with the Romanian FA for playing outside the country.”
Teodor is only expected to return to Penang with his family next week.
For the match against Kedah, Yunus feels that he has enough depth in defence to deal with the threat from national striker Akmal Rizal and ex-Penang player Hasmawi Hassan.
“Although we lost 1-2 to Perlis, I was satisfied with the team’s performance, especially in the second half,” said Yunus.
“If we can improve on it and take advantage of the home ground advantage, we should be able to bounce back on the winning track.”
Kedah are also out to get back on the winning track following their 3-4 home defeat by Selangor Public Bank.
