Martin takes the lead as Gronholm steers into trouble

KARLSTAD (Sweden): Ford’s Estonian Markko Martin led the Swedish Rally yesterday after a power steering failure slowed former champion Marcus Gronholm’s bid for a fourth win in five years.

Peugeot’s Gronholm had made a quick start, winning the first stage and leading Spain’s Carlos Sainz by 3.3 seconds after the next, but the problem on the rally’s longest stage cost him almost a minute.
