BAMAKO: Tottenham Hotspur striker Frederic Kanoute, cleared by FIFA to play for his parents’ country Mali on Thursday, is among 20 overseas-based players named in their 22-man squad for the African Nations Cup.
Kanoute’s call-up came after world football’s governing body announced that despite playing for France’s Under-21 team he was eligible to represent Mali under new rules agreed at FIFA’s October congress in Doha and which came into force on Jan 1.
