SHEFFIELD: Malaysian Low Wee Wern qualified for the third round of the girls’ Under-15 competition of the British Junior Open squash championships with a 9-1, 9-0, 9-0 win over Hannah Carey of England at the Hallamshire Squash Club here on Sunday.

The Penangite is the only Malaysian still in contention in championships and she will play against Patricia Machaczek of Germany for a place in the quarter-finals. All the other six Malaysians have been eliminated.

The Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia’s (SRAM) secretary, Wong Ah Jit, was not overly concerned over the results.

“We are in the midst of grooming the juniors to form a strong squad,” said Ah Jit.

The last time a Malaysian tasted success in the British Junior Open was in 1999 when Nicol David won the girls’ Under-19 title.
